As we approach the end of 2022 and all the end of season championships have concluded, we give you a complete round up of the National Championship finals across all the divisions, beginning with the NCAA.
NCAA D1 Men's - Syracuse
There was nail biting agony and glory in a penalty shootout at Wake Med Soccer Park as Syracuse defeated Indiana after 110 minutes of end to end soccer that was followed by eight rounds of penalties in the national championship game.
It was a fitting way for the Orange to win the program's first national championship and a fairy tale end to a season that began with Syracuse selected to finish closer to the bottom of the ACC and no one even dreamed that they would be competing for a Championship come November. Four months and a school-record 19 wins later, the Orange stand alone atop the D1 Men's college soccer mountain!
NCAA D1 Women's - UCLA
A comeback story, a career-defining goal, tears flowing in both dugouts and a euphoric release as the clock struck zero. The 2022 D1 Women's College Cup final was an all-time classic in every sense of the word, as the UCLA Bruins won their first national title since 2013. History was made by coach Margueritte Aozasa also as she became the first rookie coach in NCAA women's soccer history to win it all.
It's the first time a team came back from being behind by two goals to win the national championship. And it's only the second time the Bruins had gone behind by 2 goals this season. To top things off, the third goal was scored with the final kick of Reyes' collegiate career, marking the perfect finish for a UCLA standout.
NCAA D2 Men's - Franklin Pierce
The No. 1 ranked Franklin Pierce Men's Soccer team defeated the No. 3 CSU Pueblo 2-0, winning the 2022 D2 men’s soccer championship in style as they managed to go the whole season undefeated!
The Ravens win only their second NCAA national championship in program history, and their first title in 15 years. Franklin Pierce’s undefeated season remains untarnished as they finished 25-0-1, a near perfect year for the guy's from New Hampshire.
NCAA D2 Women's - Western Washington
No. 3 ranked Western Washington defeated the No. 1 ranked side going into the final, West Chester, 2-1 to win the 2022 D2 women's soccer national championship.
It's only the Vikings' second national title and their first since 2016, a program with a growing pedigree on the National stage. For Western Washington, the win caps off a 19-2-4 season in which they were good value for the title as they defeated the number 1 ranked team going in to the Championship game.
NCAA D3 Men's - UChicago
It was UChicago that came out on top as they defeated Williams on Saturday, December 3rd to win the D3 men’s soccer national championship.
It's a historic win for the program as they picked up their first national title in the program’s history as the Maroons defeated the Ephs 2-0. there was more history to be made however, as head coach Julianne Sitch became the first female head coach ever to lead an NCAA men's soccer program to a national championship with the win.
NCAA D3 Women's - Johns Hopkins
It was Johns Hopkins, the prestigious University in Baltimore, that captured the 2022 D3 title against CWRU, coming out as 2-1 winners in tightly contested final. The final was set to make history for either program as both CWRU and Johns Hopkins were making their first title appearance, but it was the Blue Jays who were able to steal victory and win their first NCAA women’s soccer national championship in program history!
